Tiny Steps Mommy is a blog about family, life, and caring for children – yours and mine.

My name is Nicole Dash and I am a mother of four living outside Washington, DC in Northern Virginia. Five days a week I also care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in my home-based daycare. As you can imagine, life is a never-ending adventure starring two sons, two daughters, my P.E. teacher husband, and the families we welcome into our home.

After I had more than one child and started my daycare, I discovered the only way to survive the chaos was to redefine my expectations and shove the mother’s guilt out the window. There is no perfect parent or child. We are all flawed and saying anything else is a lie. Being a good parent is less about how well-read you may be on the subject and more about how connected and forgiving you are with yourself and your child.

I am proud to call myself a Washington DC Mom Blogger and am amazed by the community that has grown out of this journey. Ultimately though it is the writing that brings me the greatest fulfillment. I love sharing my heart, my thoughts, and my many stories with others.

Once upon a time I was paid to write and edit copy. I also managed public relations and communications for a couple of non-profits and a national franchise company – that was when I actually had adult conversations on a daily basis.

Tiny Steps Mommy is written from the heart and sometimes I get sappy. I also attempt to be funny once in a while. I enjoy writing about pertinent issues related to child care and parenting. I also write about my family, myself, my husband, my kids, my daycare and really anything else that is on my mind. I am extremely supportive of my local community - especially mom-owned businesses. I occasionally do giveaways, contests, and reviews of products (although this has never been my main focus). Sometimes I receive compensation or free products in exchange for these reviews and contests, but I always write from the heart and give my honest opinions, regardless of the compensation.
